Fort Smith: Teen Injured in Accidental Shooting during "Zombie" Game

Police say it happened Monday afternoon inside a home on Massard Road.
FORT SMITH, AR - A 16-year-old boy is recovering from a gunshot wound after being injured in an apparent accidental shooting.

It happened Monday afternoon in Fort Smith inside a home on Massard Road.

Investigators say three teen boys were playing what they described to police as a zombie game when the injured boy pointed an empty bow at one of them.

That prompted one of the other teens to get a .40-caliber handgun from a nightstand drawer in his mother’s bedroom.

Police say he told officers he had played with the handgun before and was not aware that it had been loaded earlier that morning.

The teen pointed the weapon at his friend and “dry-fired” it, according to police. The boy then pulled the trigger and a round fired, hitting the injured teen near his shoulder. He was taken to the hospital and was in stable condition at last report.

Police say with no criminal charges are expected to be filed in the incident.
