FORT SMITH, Ark. (AP) — Officials in Fort Smith hope a Mitsubishi Power Systems America wind turbine plant can start production in 2012.

The company is spending $100 million to build the facility but it enters the new year with its fate in limbo because of patent litigation with General Electric Co.

The Southwest Times Record reportsthat construction is complete at the plant at Chaffee Crossing and the factory could employ 400 people when it begins operations.

Original projections had the plant opening in the first quarter of 2012.

GE sued Mitsubishi alleging patent infringement. Mitsubishi filed its own lawsuit, claiming GE infringed on its patents and engaged in antitrust activities. The lawsuits are pending in federal court.
