HOT SPRINGS, Ark. (AP) — Entergy Arkansas says it will start its winter drawdown of two lakes early to boost flows on the drought-affected Ouachita River.

Entergy says the drawdowns will start Monday on lakes Catherine and Hamilton in central Arkansas. The electric utility says the lakes will be lowered by a half-inch per day.

South Arkansas is in an extended period of drought, and low flows on the Ouachita have affected commerce along the river, particularly in north Louisiana.

Entergy says the lakes will be lowered to the bottom of their normal summertime operating range until the regular drawdown process begins as scheduled on Nov. 5.
