WARD, AR - A man has died after being hit by a train in Ward (Lonoke County).

The Ward Police Department says it happened a half-hour after midnight this morning near the railroad crossing on Peyton Street.

The victim's body was found north of the crossing on the west-side track.

The train engineer told officials the man had been walking north on the track when he first saw him and blew the horn.

The engineer said the man then raised his arms as to cover his ears but stayed on the track.

Although the engineer hit the brakes the train could not avoid hitting the man.

The victim had no identification. He is described as being white, in his 20’s, and was wearing dark blue tennis shoes, a black hooded sports type jacket with white stripes on the sleeves, and blue denim pants. He had short hair, a short goatee, and a black rubber type bracelet with the word “New Moon”.

Anyone who might able to assist in identifying the subject is asked to contact the Ward Police Department.
