Officers first responded to an accident call on North College Avenue at around 9:00 Saturday.
FAYETTEVILLE, AR-- Police and fire crews are trying to figure out what caused a fiery crash and explosion on College Avenue Saturday night.

Sergeant Shannon Gabbard with Fayetteville Police tells us officers first responded to an accident call on North College Avenue at around 9:00 Saturday.

Police say the truck had just left a nearby Motel 6 when it caught fire, but the driver kept going.

He had been heading north on College Avenue when witnesses tell police the truck suddenly burst into flames.

It continued to cross into the center turn lane when officers say the driver jumped out of the moving truck.

The empty truck kept moving across southbound lanes of oncoming traffic when it crashed into a pole in front of the Lewis Auto Dealership near College Avenue and East Longview Street.

Police say it's believed the driver is a 42-year-old man from Winslow.

He was first taken to Washington Regional Medical Center but later transported to the Children's Burn Center in Little Rock with second degree burns.
