LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) — An advocacy group says that Arkansas has a higher rating than the national average for measures to combat drunk driving.
Mothers Against Drunk Driving on Wednesday said Arkansas received four out of five stars in its national report card on drunk-driving countermeasures. The nation received an average rating of four stars.
Arkansas was given four stars for requiring ignition interlocks for all convicted drunk drivers, conducting sobriety checkpoints, having enhanced penalties for those who drive drunk with children in the car and using administrative license revocation for drunken driving offenders.
MADD said the state would have received four stars if it participated in statewide "no refusal" checkpoints with judges on call to draw blood from suspected drunk drivers if they refuse a breath test.
