LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) — Arkansas State Highway and Transportation Department crews have closed the River Trail bicycle/pedestrian path while they work to make safety improvements to a curve on Arkansas Highway 10, or Cantrell Road, in Little Rock.
Officials say the path in the area where it utilizes the Union Pacific Railroad Viaduct and a block west of the viaduct will be closed for about a week. The rest of the River Trail is still open.
The department awarded a $466,581 contract to improve a sharp curve on LaHarpe west of the viaduct. Officials say the curve has been the site of numerous accidents over the years.
Officials say the aim of the project is to make the curve less sharp.
The highway project will continue for several more months.
