HOT SPRINGS NATIONAL PARK, Ark. (AP) — Work is about to begin on roads on West Mountain in Hot Springs National Park that park officials say will mean delays for drivers and could lead to some road closings.

The work is to include repaving and installing new guardrails and traffic signs on Summit and West Mountain Roads.

Park manager Mark Scott says contractors will begin preliminary work on Monday He said there will be temporary lane closures as areas are prepared for the construction work that is to start in April.

Scott says Federal Highways Administration engineers estimate that the work will be completed by June 30.

West Mountain's roads are in good shape as - is. Adding additional signs and guardrails ammounts to attempting to fix a problem that doesn't exist, while further cluttering up the beautiful scenery in the process. This money would be better spent on Bathhouse Row restoration efforts, which have dragged along at a snails pace for the last 30 years.
