LITTLE ROCK, AR - The Arkansas Department of Higher Education has approved for business the UALR Computational Research Center at the Donaghey College of Engineering and Information Technology.

Known as supercomputers, the center’s powerful tools for solving complex computational problems will now be available for businesses and other organizations to use. The tools can provide simulation, data mining, and visualization to solve many scientific problems that were not possible by theoretical and experimental approaches. Unlike physical experimentation, computer simulation is cost-effective, safe, and flexible.

The high-performance computing center funded by the National Science Foundation now can solicit business from companies and organizations seeking to access the high-performance computing center.

“With its new recognition, the UALR Computational Research Center will continue to play a critical role at the university by aggressively seeking external funding, providing computational and technical resources, and leading advanced computing education,” said EIT Dean Eric Sandgren. “The center also will now offer high-performance computing services to businesses and other institutions in Arkansas, providing competitive advantages to organizations that cannot afford to acquire and operate such a powerful computing resource.”

The center has helped researchers from various disciplines advance their works since it was deployed three years ago. It has grown its infrastructure as well as service capability and has extended the breadth of services it provides its collaborators.
