HOOVER, Al. - It's called Kickoff2012 but few questions that the Arkansas squad answered actually had to do with the 2012 season.
Everyone wanted to talk about Bobby Petrino's motorcycle accident and ultimately his firing.
"We don't talk about it, our kids don't talk about it, they're moving on," said Arkansas head coach John L. Smith. "We talking about tearing off the rear view mirror and looking ahead."
Unfortunately that's not how the rest of the country has treated the off-season at Arkansas.
"I think all the eyes are on us to see how we'll do without Bobby (Petrino), but I think we'll be fine," said running back Knile Davis.
If anything the loss has motivated the team, and now they're using the critics as motivation.
"We have a team that can really go out and get the job done, so by him leaving it really put a chip on our back," said linebacker Tank Wright. "We dropped in the polls, we dropped in a lot of categories because of the coaching change."
With the start of the season still a few weeks away, the Hogs know the only way to change perceptions will come on the field.
"People will probably talk about this for years, but the way to get them to forget it, is to get on the field and get the football season started," said Smith. "That'll stop people from talking, and get people focused on this year."
