Nolan Richards to Speak at Philander Smith

Nolan Richardson, Jr., a well-known coach and public speaker, will be the guest of honor and speaker for Philander Smith College’s 2012-13 Athletic Banquet.
LITTLE ROCK, AR -This Saturday, April 6, 2013, Philander Smith College will have the distinguished honor of welcoming a legend to their campus. Nolan Richardson, Jr., a well-known coach and public speaker, will be the guest of honor and speaker for Philander Smith College’s 2012-13 Athletic Banquet.

Richardson is best known for "40 Minutes of Hell." In 2012 his coaching philosophy was featured in the documentary "40 Minutes of Hell" on ESPN as part of the network's SEC Storied series. He is to date, the winningest basketball coach in Arkansas history, compiling a 389-169 (.697) record in 17 seasons.

Richardson attended Douglas Elementary School, Bowie High School, and graduated from Texas Western College (UTEP). He started his 38 years of coaching in El Paso at Bowie High School. He was elected to the National Collegiate Basketball Hall of Fame in 2008. He has coached teams to winning a Division I Basketball National Championship, an NIT championship, and a Junior College National Championship. Richardson is the only coach to win all three championships.

The athletic banquet will be held on the campus of Philander Smith College in the newly renovated Kendall Center’s Nugent Conference Room at 7 pm on Saturday, April 6, 2013.
