Tallahassee, FL (Sports Network) - Florida State president Eric Barron announced Wednesday that Randy Spetman will no longer be the university's athletics director.
Spetman, who was hired in February 2008, has been reassigned as senior advisor to the athletics department. The decision to reassign was "a mutual agreement," according to Barron. He is expected to stay with the university until his contract ends in February 2014.
"During his five-year tenure, Randy established an enviable record for Florida State Athletics and has done so with the highest level of integrity and commitment," said Barron in a statement. "I am pleased, therefore, that through mutual agreement, Randy will continue to advance the Athletics Department's Strategic Plan by working with a full range of stakeholders to gather additional information that will help shape the future of Florida State athletics."
Senior associate athletic director Vanessa Fuchs has been named interim athletics director.
The 59-year-old Spetman had been scheduled to present a five-year plan for Florida State athletics during Thursday's Board of Trustees workshop.
Prior to being hired by Florida State, Spetman was the athletics director at Utah State from 2003-08 and at the Air Force Academy, his alma mater, from 1996-2003.
