Hot Springs to Host 2013 and 2014 GAC Volleyball Championships

On Wednesday, the Great American Conference announced that Hot Springs would host 2013 and 2014 GAC Volleyball Championships from Summit Arena.
RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. – On Wednesday, the Great American Conference announced that Hot Springs would host 2013 and 2014 GAC Volleyball Championships from Summit Arena.

Volleyball became the latest GAC sport to move it championship to a neutral site as it joined men’s and women’s basketball, men’s and women’s tennis, men’s and women’s golf, softball and baseball. Hot Springs County Club served as the venue for the 2012 and 2013 GAC Men’s and Women’s Golf Championships, and will again host on its two courses in 2014.

"It's an exciting step for GAC volleyball to move the championship tournament off-campus,” GAC Commissioner Will Prewitt said. “Hot Springs has proved to be a great host for the GAC Golf Championships and many other collegiate, high school, and amateur sports events.  We believe that it will be a partnership that is beneficial to our student-athletes and to the Hot Springs community."

The 2013 GAC Volleyball Championships will be contested from Thursday, Nov. 21 through Saturday, Nov. 23. The 2014 GAC Volleyball Championships will be contested from Thursday, Nov. 13 through Saturday, Nov. 15.

Hot Springs has a tradition of hosting major sports events of all kinds, and we look forward to becoming the home of the GAC volleyball tournament.”

The Summit Arena opened in 2003 and has hosted a variety of high school and NCAA Championship events. The NCAA contested the Division II Women’s Basketball Elite Eight at the site in 2005 and 2006. The Sun Belt Conference held its men’s and women’s basketball tournaments there from 2009 through 2013. The Arkansas Activities Association played it basketball finals at Summit Arena from 2007 through 2012 and recently was awarded the 2014-16 finals.
