Bozeman, MT (Sports Network) - Montana State University is mourning the death of football recruit Folabi Akanbi, who died Wednesday afternoon while playing basketball in Pearland, Texas.

Akanbi, a 17-year-old senior at Glenda Dawson High School, collapsed while playing a pickup basketball game, and was pronounced dead by cardiac arrest at a local hospital, according to reports.

Earlier this month, Akanbi signed a National Letter-of-Intent to play football at Montana State beginning this fall.

"Our hearts go out to Folabi's family and friends, and his teammates and coaches," Montana State coach Rob Ash said. "He was a wonderful young man who captivated everyone he met, and had such an incredibly bright future. This tragedy leaves us without words to properly express our sorrow."
