ARKADELPHIA, Ark. - Henderson State University quarterback Kevin Rodgers was named NCAA Division II National Offensive Player of the Week for his performance last week against McKendree University.

Rodgers also has been named the Beyond Sports College Network National Player of the Week.

Rodgers is the first Reddie to earn National Player of the Week Honors since kicker Bryan Woodard was named D2Football.com National Player of the Week in 2005. Rodgers is only the third player to earn such an award since Henderson moved to the NCAA Division II level.

The Rockwall, Texas native was also named GAC Offensive Player of the Week for the third straight week dating back to last year's win against Ouachita Baptist University. Rodgers is the only player in HSU history to earn Offensive Player of the Week honors three consecutive weeks.

The sophomore signal-caller completed 28-of-36 passes for a career-high 422 yards and seven touchdowns in Henderson's 47-24 win over the Bearcats.

The seven scores through the air sets a new Henderson State single-game record, passing the previous record of six scores when Chris Reil did so in 2000 against Arkansas Tech. Rodgers' accomplishment also puts him in the GAC record book surpassing the previous record of five touchdown passes.

Rodgers' has put up some impressive numbers in the first two games. He leads all divisions of the NCAA in touchdown passes with 11. Matt Barkley of Southern California and Kevin Morton of Kutztown follow with 10 touchdown throws.

For the season, Rodgers has completed 50-of-66 passes for a completion percentage of 75.8 which leads the nation at the Division II level, while having totaled 802 yards for an average of 401 yards per game which ranks third nationally. Rodgers also has a 223.74 passing efficiency which also ranks third nationally.

Henderson State will begin GAC play Saturday, Sept. 15, when the Reddies travel to Russellville to face Arkansas Tech with kickoff set for 6 p.m.
