SPRINGDALE, Ark. and LITTLE ROCK, Ark, June 30, 2009 – VYPE HIGH SCHOOL SPORTS MAGAZINE is proud to announce the release of its 2009 Arkansas High School Football Preview.
The full-color, 260-page magazine will try to equal the success of the debut edition that was the top-selling, in-state football magazine at Wal-Mart last summer. This year it’s the only in-state football magazine available at the world’s largest retailer. It goes on sale this week for $7.99 at more than 1,000 locations across the state, including Barnes & Noble, Kroger, Hastings and other fine retailers where magazines are sold.
“While we were pleased with our first preview last summer, the difference in this year's book is day and night," VYPE Editor Mike Capshaw said. "We couldn't have done this without the support of coaches and administrators across the state. They deserve the credit for making this year's preview extra special.”
The magazine previews the 208 Arkansas prep teams, complete with school information and schedules. The re-designed preview pages allow for 100 more words on each team than a year ago, and offer a Best Sports Moment for each school.
The issue is also packed with features. The exclusive cover story examines Oakland Raiders and former Arkansas Razorbacks running back Darren McFadden and Little Rock Christian running back Michael Dyer and their friendship that started back when they were both scoring touchdowns every time they touched the ball in peewee football. Included is a list of the Top 10 Arkansas high school running backs of all time.
“This story is a special one, and we are proud to have two of the greatest running backs in Arkansas prep history together on our cover,” said VYPE Editor Nate Olson. “These are the kinds of exclusive stories our readers can look forward to in years to come.”
VYPE also followed Pulaski Academy during the days leading up to its Class 5A state championship for another feature. In addition, we also explore what has led to Lincoln High’s 29-game losing streak and rank the Top 10 mascots in the state with intriguing stories behind each one. We also break down the difference between a high school star and a college prospect, complete with updated recruiting rankings for the Classes of 2010 and 2011.
ESPN’s Chris Mortensen joins us for the second straight year as a lead columnist along with former NFL and Dollarway tight end Jackie Harris. In addition, VYPE highlights Van Buren linebacker Quentin George, Bentonville lineman Chase Peterson and West Memphis coach Lanny Dauksch, among others. There’s also hundreds of full color pictures, team/conference rankings on every thing imaginable and coaches’ polls that rank all 208 teams in the state.
VYPE-U also presents a college preview section. The section seven-page section highlights Arkansas, Arkansas State, Central Arkansas and Arkansas-Pine Bluff with a 2009 schedule, statistics and post-spring depth charts.
“Our goal is to make each issue better than the last, and we’ve achieved that with our second edition,” said VYPE Arkansas Market Director Kenyatta Wright. “Once again, this publication is fresh, informative and entertaining. It’s going to be hard to top this one, but we’ve already started planning for next year.
“We’ve set the bar very high with this one, now we’ve just got to keep raising it.”
