Sunday Storms

The storm system that spawned numerous tornadoes over The Plains Saturday moves toward Arkansas today.
SUNDAY IS A SEVERE WEATHER ALERT DAY.

An intense area of low pressure is pushing to the Mid-West this afternoon and carrying a cold front underneath it.  Out ahead of the frontal boundary, we're seeing a disorganized line of thunderstorms forming in Western Arkansas.  As the front approaches Central Arkansas the storms are expected to intensify and could reach severe criteria.

At this hour, the tornado threat is low and it is mainly present in North/Northwest Arkansas.  In Central Arkansas, the greatest threats are gusty winds and small hail.  These conditions may change soon so pay attention to FOX 16 for more updates.

The best timing for these thunderstorms to reach majority of the viewing area is 7 p.m. this evening.  Once the initial line passes through the region there will be a chance for a few left over showers and storms before midnight.
