Jackie McPherson Enters 1st District Congressional Race
Jackie McPherson, of Heber Springs, is running for 1st District Congress.
HEBER SPRINGS, AR (News release) - Today Mayor Jackie McPherson announced the start of his campaign to represent the residents of the First Congressional District.
The announcement took place at the Heber Springs Community Center, a project that Mayor McPherson helped develop during his time in the City Council and brought to completion as Mayor. Mayor McPherson laid out his plans to bring the values of hard work, bipartisan problem-solving leadership that he’s practiced throughout his life back to Congress.
“I know the values of the of the First Congressional District because I’ve lived them. I worked hard on the assembly line and in the restaurant business and I will bring that same Arkansas work ethic back to Washington,” Mayor McPherson said. “As Mayor, I served the people of this city and got things done by working with everyone, regardless of whether they were a Democrat or a Republican – but that type of bipartisan leadership is missing from Congress. We need a new voice who will do what we did in Heber Springs: work hard and bring folks together, so that we can finally stop the finger-pointing and get Congress focused on solving problems that matter.”
About Mayor McPherson:
Jackie’s first job was working on the assembly line in a refrigeration manufacturing plant. After serving as supervisor, Jackie and his wife Vicki opened their own restaurant in Heber Springs – McPherson’s Family Restaurant. Jackie, Vicki and their children worked together in the business, teaching the kids the importance of hard work through daily practice – serving customers who became more like family and building a community around their restaurant.
Jackie was first elected Mayor of Heber Springs in 2007, after serving on the City Council for 12 years. As Mayor, Jackie brought the work ethic and the problem solving values he learned and practiced in the private sector to City Hall. A fiscal conservative, Mayor McPherson has kept city finances strong -- balancing every budget, cutting wasteful spending, eliminating red tape, and introducing commonsense solutions to save tax dollars while building a half million dollar rainy day fund. Under Mayor McPherson, Heber Springs is doing more with less: investing in infrastructure improvement like new roads, improved utilities, and the construction of a new community and sports center that provides services to seniors, families and residents, while boosting the community’s quality of life.
A lifelong resident of Arkansas, Jackie has lived in Heber Springs since 1964. He serves as a volunteer firefighter and is an active hunter and fisher (in Little Red River). He has been involved in numerous civic organizations and causes, including the local rotary, the Downtown Network which works to expand and promote Heber Spring’s downtown businesses, the SugarLoaf Mountain Heritage Council and the Chamber of Commerce. He attends First Methodist Church.
Jackie currently lives in Heber Springs with his wife, Vicki. The McPherson’s have three children and two grandchildren.
