Jacob, Sophia top list of most popular American baby names

The most popular baby names in the U.S. in 2012 were hardly a surprise. The most popular boy name has been at the top of the list for nearly 15 years, while the most common girl name is also a repeat champion.
WASHINGTON (AP) — Jacob and Sophia top the list of most popular American baby names — again.

It's Jacob's 14th straight year at the top of the list, and the second straight year for Sophia.

Jacob was followed by Mason, Ethan, Noah and William as the most popular name for boys.  For girls, Sophia was followed by Emma, Isabella, Olivia and Ava.

Each year, the Social Security Administration lists the top 1,000 most popular baby names. The agency also publicizes which names are gaining and losing popularity.

This year for boys, it's seems to be all about high expectations. Among the fastest rising names are King and Messiah.
