Steering fluid

Caring for your car's steering system is a fairly simple matter. Check the power steering fluid periodically to make sure it's at the correct level. If the fluid stays too low for too long, damage to the steering system could result. When adding fluid, make sure you use the kind recommended in the owner's manual. Some cars use conventional automatic transmission fluid in power steering, while others use a specific kind of fluid. One of the first signs that your power steering system is low or out of fluid is a high-pitched squealing coming from the engine area, especially when turning. If you notice that your car's becoming harder to turn, this could also indicate a problem with the steering system.
