A sticker price, or list price, is the dealer cost plus an additional 10 to 15 percent markup. Different factors may contribute to a car's sticker price, including inventory and time of year. Cars with heavy inventory may have a markup of only $150 to $500 (one hundred and fifty to five hundred dollars). More popular models typically have a larger markup resulting in a higher sticker price. Sticker prices tend to be lower during slow-selling months like December and January to encourage sales. They can also vary from dealer to dealer, making it important to shop around before making a purchase. Ordering your car rather than buying it off a dealership lot may also help you get the lowest possible price.
