Perhaps the most important element in keeping your car's engine running smoothly is motor oil. Virtually all moving parts of an engine depend upon a thin layer of lubricant to keep metal parts from grinding together. Severe damage could occur to your car's engine if it runs for even a few seconds without oil. The oil is circulated through your engine by the oil pump, which is usually driven by the crankshaft. The pump picks up oil from the oil pan, then moves it through a filter, and finally into an oil line where it's distributed to all the different parts of your engine. Motor oil not only reduces friction, it also cools your car's engine, reduces noise, and helps keep components clean. Your car's owner's manual should have information on what type of oil is best for your particular car. Contact a qualified auto mechanic in your area for more information on lubricating your car.
