When you purchase a disability insurance policy, you should understand how much you will receive, the length of the waiting period for benefits and how much your policy will cost. You should also consider what types of disability riders you will need. Social security riders promise to pay benefits while you wait for your social security payments to start. Usually social security will take at least five months to begin and you must expect to be disabled for a whole year to qualify. Disability insurance is appropriate for those who can't qualify for social security. Consult an insurance agent in your area for more information.
