Health maintenance organizations are usually called H-M-O plans. They provide an alternative to traditional insurance by creating a health care network consisting of physicians, hospitals, therapists, specialists, labs, and clinics from which members can receive health care. H-M-O plans generally offer a flat monthly fee that doesn't change, regardless of the extent of medical attention you require. Within H-M-O plans, you must choose from doctors within their network for treatment and your primary care physician must approve all your medical treatment, including referrals to specialists. H-M-O plans usually offer coverage for routine medical check-ups, continuous care, emergency procedures and prescription coverage. Consult an insurance agent in your area for more information about H-M-O plans.
