Asthma is a chronic inflammatory lung disease caused by an oversensitivity to certain triggers, which cause an asthmatic's airways to constrict and become inflamed resulting in wheezing and/or coughing. Triggers can include allergies, sensitivity to chemicals, cold weather, sinus infections, and emotional anxiety. Most triggers that bring on asthma are allergens, such as dust mites, mold, animal dander, and cigarettes, which explains why most people who suffer from asthma also have allergies.
