What is a biopsy report?

Any time a physician removes tissue from your body, it will likely be examined for cancer. This is true of tumors as well as moles and other growths. Once the tissue has been tested, the patient receives a biopsy report that indicates whether the tissue was benign or malignant. A benign tumor is relatively harmless. It doesn't spread to other parts of the body and usually doesn't grow much. Malignant tumors, on the other hand, can grow very quickly and spread to other parts of the body. If a biopsy confirms a tumor as malignant, it will classify it with a grade ranging from one to four. A grade one is the least serious. A grade four is the most serious.
