Arm and leg pain can be caused by many different conditions. If you experience sudden numbness in your arms or legs, especially if the numbness is on one side, you should have a medical exam immediately to rule out the possibility of a stroke. Other types of arm and leg pain can be treated by a chiropractor, especially muscle and joint pain. Your pain may be a partially dislocated joint, a pinched nerve, or muscle strain. In these cases, a chiropractor may use adjustments to reposition the joint and release tension, or heat therapy to soothe the muscles. In some cases, you may need to wear a brace on your arm or leg to keep the joint immobile until it heals completely. Stress and injuries from sports may require lifestyle change in addition to adjustments. You may need to reduce your activities and perform special exercises or stretches to ease tension and help the muscles heal. Injuries to the bones may cause severe pain, in which case, you'll need to have an X-ray to determine if the bone is fractured or broken. If it is, you'll need to see a medical doctor for treatment. Muscle cramps are another painful problem that can be treated with adjustments, as well as massage. Cramps may be caused by a deficiency in certain crucial vitamins and minerals, so a special vitamin formulation may be prescribed.
