Hearing loss, particularly in the elderly, can be most noticeable when using the telephone. Normal hearing aids may get in the way when holding a receiver to the ear so a telephone amplifier may be the answer. Amplifiers allow you to control your phone's volume. There are a number of units available from various manufacturers. The first step is an examination by a qualified ear, nose and throat specialist to determine the nature and extent of hearing loss. The doctor may then help you find a unit that is right for your particular needs.
