Did Cinderella and the Prince really live happily ever after, or does the story fail to mention the foot problems that resulted from fitting her feet into rigid glass slippers? Foot conditions are far more prevalent in women than men, and many of those problems can be traced to high heels. Of course, the situation is far better now than ever before in history. Up until the middle of the 19th century, there were no right or left shoes. Both were identical. You can imagine the problems those caused! Try to pick shoes that are designed for the activity you'll be doing, whether it's hiking or shooting hoops. It's also a good idea to shop for shoes in the afternoon; your feet tend to swell during the course of the day. Don't rely on sizes. An 8-B in one style may not be the same as an 8-B in another. Walking around in the shoes is the best way to judge the fit. To make things even more difficult, 80% of people have differently sized right and left feet, and your feet change shape as you grow older. Try to allow for all these factors when shopping for shoes. For more information on choosing the right shoes for your feet, consult a foot specialist.
