Can the fat return?

Adults have a certain number of fat cells, and this number never changes, although each cell can increase in size if you gain weight, making the body larger. Fat cells that are removed during liposuction never return, so the contoured area will remain proportionately smaller than before the procedure. However, if you consume more calories than you expend, you'll gain weight as your remaining fat cells enlarge. This weight gain will appear in the same areas as usual, though the treated areas won't increase as much as they would have before the surgery. It's a myth that after liposuction, the weight will automatically 'come back in different places'. To complement the results of your procedure and maintain your desired weight, it's important to eat a healthy diet and exercise regularly. If this regimen and your initial liposuction don't produce a satisfactory effect, the procedure can usually be repeated later. To learn more about liposuction and fat reduction, consult a cosmetic surgeon.
