Many varieties of sink bowls are on the market today. They come in a myriad of shapes, colors, and price ranges, and are sized to accommodate almost any sized bathroom. Although other options are available, vitreous (vih-TREE-us) china, porcelain over cast iron, and solid surfacing are the most popular choices in sink bowls and vanities. They're grouped into categories according to how they're installed. Self-rimming sink bowls are dropped into a cutout in the counter and have rims that extend beyond the cutout to hold it in place. Under-counter sinks are mounted to the underside of the counter and are generally used with solid surface tops. Above-counter models, as the name implies, are attached to the top of the counter. Integral sink basins are built into the countertop as one piece. There are also tile-in models, intended for tiled counters, that have flat edges and square corners. The pedestal sink can be wall mounted, but more commonly sits on a base.
