A will is important because it allows you to determine how your affairs should be handled after your death. Usually, wills provide for the payment of debts and distribution of your property. If you have minor children, you need a will to appoint a guardian if both parents die or if, for some reason, the other parent is unable to take custody. You may want to designate that a trust fund be set up to provide for the financial needs of your minor children. By retaining an attorney to help draft your will, you can provide the maximum benefit to your loved ones, reduce possible family conflicts, and minimize court involvement in your estate. For more information on why a will is necessary, consult with an attorney.
