If your motorcycle is wrecked in an accident, the compensation you receive depends on the type of insurance coverage you have and on the bike's estimated market value. If the accident wasn't your fault and your insurance policy includes coverage for collision, an estimator from the liable party's insurance company will make an offer based on the fair market value. This offer may not reflect the value you personally place on your motorcycle and may not cover the costs of acquiring a replacement. If you feel that the insurance company's estimate of the true market value is incorrect, an attorney can assist you in negotiations with the insurance company. You can also utilize the services of an independent assessor to establish your claim. If your motorcycle can be repaired, it's your decision, within reason, which repair shop to use. Generally, you obtain a detailed estimate for the repair work to present to the liable party's insurance company.
