Felt is a versatile craft material, and especially easy to work with. One of the most popular felt projects is the felt board. Begin by helping the children cover a shirt-box-sized piece of cardboard with black felt. Now, let them use other colors to cut out shapes of people, animals, houses, and whatever strikes your fancy. Here's a new twist to felt boards figures-- let the kids cut pictures out of magazines, and glue them to the felt. Have them tell a story by moving the figures around on the board. Or how about a sturdy dress-up doll? Cut out a paper doll-like figure, and use scraps of felt to 'dress' it. You can even add hair and a face with yarn and buttons. You'll find that felt is an ideal fabric for children to work with, because it doesn't ravel, accepts glues, and is relatively easy to cut.
