First Yoga Warriors Event Raises Colon Cancer Awareness

- LITTLE ROCK, AR -- FOX16's first annual Yoga Warriors was held today to raise awareness for colon cancer.

"I am overjoyed," said FOX 16 News Anchor Donna Terrell, who spearheaded and hosted the station event.

The event aims to raise money for the American Cancer Society.

Donna's daughter, Queah, died from complications of colon cancer in 2011.

Since then, Donna has been on a mission to let others know about the importance of staying healthy and getting second opinions, if you feel like something is now right.

"My daughter knew something was wrong, I knew something was wrong, but the doctor said 'You're fine". We wanted to believe that so badly, when all along that cancer was growing inside of her," said Terrell.

Yoga was something Queah enjoyed doing before she died.

"When you are taking all these medications, you're dealing with a life threatening illness, when you find something that makes you feel good, it's so important," said Terrell.

Local yoga studio owner Breezy Osborne-Wingfield led the class.

"Most people are intimidated by yoga when they see pictures of a foot behind the head or something that looks like a pretzel, but I have to remind people, you have to start somewhere," said Osborne.

So some first timers had no problem coming.

"It's for a good cause and I wanted to do it anyway. I've done Zumba and other workouts. So why not try yoga," said Nyree Wine.

About 100 people showed up for the event, raising roughly $1,000.
