Genetic Mutation Could Lower Risk Of Type 2 Diabetes

- There may be new hope in the fight against type-2 diabetes.

A new study has found an extremely rare mutation that could protect against the disease.

The effect is pronounced, it reduces the risk by 2/3 and may even lower the risk in overweight people.

Two drug companies that sponsored the study are reportedly working on a drug to mimic the gene mutation, but it could take 10 to 20 years to reach market.

The authors admit more research is needed to understand how the mutation lowers the risk of type-2 diabetes.

New research also suggests noise machines, intended to help babies sleep, might be harmful to their hearing.

Scientists measured the maximum noise levels in 14 infant sleep machines and found all of them exceeded the recommended noise limit for infants in hospital nurseries.

The findings also suggested nightly exposure to white noise might affect babies' hearing, speech, and language development.
