The family of an 8-year-old boy is calling him a hero. They say Alex Stewart ran into a burning trailer to save a 4-year-old boy. Alex says he didn't think twice about running into the trailer to rescue the 4-year-old. Looking at what's left of the trailer, you realize how dangerous this was.
Saturday started off as just an ordinary day for Alex Stewart, until he and his grandmother stopped at Vicki Lane's home in Garland County to buy a travel trailer.
"Then we felt a big big bump and well we went outside and half the roof was on fire," Alex told us.
Alex says Miss Lane tried to put the fire out with a water hose, and then realized her 4-year-old nephew had not come out of the house with them.
When Alex’s other grandmother heard what he'd done she was shocked. She says Alex is a little hero who was in the right place at the right time.
"I don't think the women could have gotten him out. I think Alex was here for a reason and he did good. It amazes me," Alex’s grandmother, Roxane Morphew said.
When asked why he went in after the 4-year-old boy, Alex said, “My feelings did it."
Grandma says although Alex did a good thing, he doesn't realize he could have gotten hurt. They thank God things turned out the way they did.
"We told him not to go in any burning buildings for a while. His mother and I enforced that," says Morphew.
