LITTLE ROCK, AR -- Jefferson County deputies say Friday night a pit bull attacked its owner, killing 45-year-old Debra Roberts.

Deputies say it happened while her husband took a shower next door because the couple's home doesn't have running water.

When he came back, he found his wife on the ground and called 911.

"I think my wife is dead. I am not sure," he told the operator, "her leg is almost chewed off."

Deputies say they had no other choice, but to shoot and kill the larger dog. They safely took the smaller one away.

"We consider that as evidence. It may be possible that we do an autopsy on the dog, the one that is deceased, to determine the stomach content's," said Major Lafayette Woods.

Deputies say the woman has been bitten before by the same dogs. However, she went to the hospital and did not file a report.

Also, deputies say right now no charges will be filed because it appears as if the dogs simply turned violent against their owners.

copmom, the reason you havent seen hardly anything about other breeds killing people is because the media is focused on the pit bull breed. Like I said earlier, I agree with both sides on this. Pit bulls are generally a vicious breed, not all, but most are. But, ANY dog has the capability to turn on humans. I personally have either heard or seen attacks and even death by other breeds. Heather is right, research it and you'll be surprised at the number of dog attacks by other breeds than the pit bull. Respect a dog, but dont trust it. We humans can not predict what they are thinking.

Also if you watch the video, it states deputies have had many calls about the dogs being left unattended and malnourished. The video shows the dog taken into custody lying on the floor with all of his ribs showing. I'm not so nice when I'm hungry either. Maybe someone should leave you locked in a house with not water or food and lets see how that turns out...

Copmom: One that comes to mind is August of last year in Ozark when a Rottweiler killed a four year old, and I'm sure if you did some research you would find more.

I have not read any news reports on other breeds of dogs killing people recently. Not German Sherpards, not boxers and not any other breed. I have read articles about a set of grandparents whos grandchild was killed by the pitbull they had raised from birth and had been around the child since the childs birth. I have seen videos of a woman who turned her pitbull on an aminal control officer and mamed her. I have read stories in our state time and time again about well trained pitbull dogs killing children, other animals (family pets), people taking walks in their own neighborhoods, and now their own owners. It speaks for itself, no translations necessary.

1gmama; click on view all, someone mentioned trailer trash; hence my comment and another's about trailers. Butch; Really? An MP? Really? My younger brother was also. He has some good stories; bet you do too! For some reason I thought you were in 2nd Armored Division as a tank man. Regrardless, thanks for serving Butch! Just something else we have in common outside our differences in opinion on occasion. Even though I did not see any combat, still proud to have served; you should be also! No reason to hang your head man!

Arkansas Yankee, these people did not live in a trailer, what they showed on the news story was a house. What's a trailer got to do with it?

Dont ban the breeding of dogs, ban the breeding of stupid people. Do that, and everything else will fall into place.

I live in a trailer also. But I pay my bills every month. Only time I don't have water is when I shut it off to fix a leak. Got a laugh out of you Butch! Good story about blood inside the fence, but no one complained! LOL As my brother would say - Good Boy!!!! ( He was a dog handler in the Army )
