FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. (AP) — A Farmington woman has pleaded guilty to two counts of negligent homicide in a vehicle crash on Interstate 540 in Washington County.

The Northwest Arkansas Times  reports Dorothy Hill pleaded guilty to the charge as part of a plea agreement and was sentenced to 40 years in prison, with 22 years suspended.

Authorities say Hill was driving on I-540 on May 15 when her vehicle collided that of 26-year-old Kathleen Mellinger, who died at a hospital three days later. Her passenger, 26-year-old Sean Mabrey, died at the scene.

Officials say Hill had a blood-alcohol content of more than .08, twice the legal limit, at the time.

Hill sobbed as Mellinger's parents and fiance spoke in court Thursday.

A telephone listing for her attorney, John Everett, rang unanswered on Saturday.

proud2bme, I have a hard time believing that the justice system is only hard on blacks and meth-billies. The justice system is not hard enough on any race of criminals.

Here we go again with the plea deals. Negligent homicide is murder and should be treated as so. She gets 40 years with 22 suspended. She will be out within 5 years or less. Again, zero justice served, and no lesson learned by the convicted. Failure, plain failure in the justice system. They save money with these plea deals, but lives are taken by repeat offenders that should have been charged, convicted and sentenced properly. Nothing more than a joke of a system.

I doubt it was drinking that caused this tragedy. More like not paying attention. She got more time than the majority of people. Sad but true. My sympathy to all the victims families. Her family too.

Are you sure .08 is "twice the legal limit?"
