Arkansas Hospital to Cut Jobs, Workers

Some employees at the Jefferson Regional Medical Center will be laid off.

PINE BLUFF, AR -- Another Arkansas hospital is laying off workers, citing drastic changes to the health care system.

Leaders at the Jefferson Regional Medical Center said they couldn't avoid the cuts in order to stay afloat throughout the enforcement of the Affordable Care Act that takes affect in January.

Administrators will cut jobs, eliminate positions, and realign certain pay practices and benefits to absorb the billions of dollars in Medicare cuts.

Hospital advocates said the changes won't jeopardize service.

"The hospital is still in operation, and the services are still being offered.  It's just a way for the hospital to decrease their expenses because of declining revenue," said Bo Ryall, president of the Arkansas Hospital Association.

JRMC leaders said the cuts will be gradual.
