ATKINS, Ark. (AP) — Authorities say an Atkins woman is dead after the horse she was riding stumbled and fell down a hill.

Pope County Coroner Leonard Krout says 29-year-old Shavon M. Howard was pronounced dead at a Russellville hospital on Sunday. Krout tells the Russellville Courier that Howard was riding her horse near Atkins when the horse stumbled and fell.

The coroner says Howard suffered multiple internal injuries in the accident.

Family and friends say Howard was an accomplished rider with years of experience. She was a member of the Atkins Riding Club, the National Barrel Horse Association and the Yell County Riding Club.
