BAUXITE, AR - Tuesday night, around 300 people gathered at Bauxite High School to remember one of their own. Zach Bynum, 18, died in a car crash Monday morning in Bauxite.

Students, teachers, family and friends filled "The Pit" at Bauxite High School and talked about how much they will miss Zach.

“He’s been my best friend for so long. I wish he was here right now,” said one student.

Friends shared memories and hugs and let out tears as they remembered the young man who made so many of them smile.

“He just hates it when people cry. And, right now, I just feel like that he’s still here, and that’s why I’m strong right now,” says Florencia Olguin, Zach's girlfriend.

Olguin says he was always the perfect gentleman.

“He would carry my books, he would hold my bags, he would open my locker, open every door for me,” says Olguin. “He always told me he wouldn’t know what to do if he lost me or his mom.”

Now, Olguin is thankful so many people showed up Tuesday night as the community grieves for a life lost too soon.

“I love it because they’re all just trying to make me feel better. All of this love and support,” says Olguin.

Bynum's visitation is Wednesday from 6 p.m.-8 p.m. at the funeral home on Highway 5 and Alexander Road. His funeral is Thursday at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church.

Bauxite's mayor tells FOX16 Bynum was a passenger in a car driven by a friend who passed in a "do not pass" zone while going aruond a curve. The car hit a telephone pole, killing Bynum.

I have lost a child too by no fault of his own, and only part of this story that is good is hit a light pole and not another person.
