Bill Filed in Arkansas House Would Allow Open Carry of Firearms in Public

A bill was filed in the Arkansas House of Representatives Wednesday morning that would allow citizens to openly carry a firearm in public places.

Sponsored by Representative Sue Scott, House Bill 1408 was filed just before 11:00 Wednesday morning.

The bill is for an act to be known as the "Permitted Open Carry Act," and reads as follows: "An act to be known as the permitted open carry act; to amend state law regarding the carrying and possession of firearms to ensure all Arkansans have the right to carry arms in public places, unless otherwise prohibited by law, for self defense; and for other purposes."

The bill would allow citizens to obtain a permit to "carry a handgun either openly or concealed in a public place that is not otherwise prohibited by law."

Under the current language of the bill, a concealed carry license would automatically be converted to a license to carry a handgun in public.

Forward; Great comment! You have to realize though; those that voted the way they did - they don't care about the 1st, 2nd, and 4th - they are content to live on their knees as long as the handouts keep coming.

@Kileymari: From the Declaration of Independence; "We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness." Carrying a gun is not a privilege, it's a right given to us by our creator. The constitution does not give us the right to do anything, it prohibits the government from trampling on those rights. That's what the majority of Americans don't understand and why some are so eager to give up those rights. The government is currently in a full out war against our 1st, 2nd, and 4th amendments.

Kileymari; Glad to see Patriotism is still alive and well in some people!Well said Think! Butch; I know what you mean about "following". Had a female rider on a PGR mission lock 'em up a couple of bikes in front of me; could have been costly! I managed to go around the guy in front of me instead of hitting him. Me, I'm not scared either; I just don't do Facebook. The wife has an "aunt" that wanted me to join, so she could show us a thousand family pictures; no thanks! My face is all over Jax; a great many friends; but not a face that will win any beauty contests! LOL To each his own I reckon; Peace be with you 54 ( and Granny too ).

Nearly every violent action taken with guns was NOT carried out by those who were responsible gun owners who had permits, number one. And number two, no one should just be handed a gun simply because they want to own one. As an AMERICAN it is a PRIVILEGE to have our rights. They were not GIVEN to us. They were PAID for through the lives of those who fought to defend us as a nation. Be proud to be an AMERICAN by respecting our Ammendments that were brought about from the lives SACRAFICED for us to have what we call "our rights". Now step aside if you are not in line to apply for your liscence to carry a gun. There is no line for those who did not want to carry.

This is something many other states would be wise in doing. Instead of trying to keep our right to bare arms to be removed from the Ammendments. Makes me even more content with my choice to leave crazy California and live in a section of Americca where they are still proud to be Americans rather then a herd of empty headed sheep who will follow the leader blindly over the cliff!

The top ten most violent countries are also the most uncivilized countries and a lot older and have been fighting since the beginning of time, there's no comparison but if you take away all the guns from the law abiding the the criminals will kill off all the unarmed and then they will fight amongst themselves and then we'll be part of the top ten.

Did you ever check out the top ten most violent countries. The first thing I noticed is they have the most liberal gun laws. In the countries where they carry the most the have the most violence. How do you suppose that happened. And old yank I never look for any friends. Why? who needs them. Just to feel greasy at the back. Not me. It's just that over their a person comments you get to see who it is. Me I'm not scared. My face will be there for all to see. You can even check out granny in the hot pink swim suit. Like what I say I could care less. Follow. I wouldn't recommend it either. I might turn a corner to fast. That's rough on a followers nose.
