City Rallies for Injured Football Player

He suffered a major leg injury, one that could have cost him his leg.
VILONIA, AR -- The city of Vilonia is pulling together to lift up one of its own.  Last Friday night, Vilonia football player Houston Cotton was severely injured on the field.

He suffered a major leg injury, one that could have cost him his leg.

"Its about as a severe injury I've ever seen," Vilonia Head Coach, Jim Stanley said. "For three days, I couldn't sleep."

"It was a major vascular surgery, they repaired an artery in his left leg, so we are recovering from that," Houston's dad Sonny said.

As the teen continues to recoup in a Memphis hospital, his team, his school and his city are looking to help.

"Everybody's hurting and they are just doing everything they can to help," Stanley said.

Last weekend students stood on street corners in town asking for donations, and the team drove to Tennessee to be by Houston's side. This week, the school is selling special T-shirts, with proceeds going to the family.

"They have been here with us, physically and mentally, they've been praying for us," Sonny said. "Every day they just wanna make sure we have what we need. There's nothing they haven't done for us, its just unbelievable."

Houston plans on tackling a fourth surgery in style.

"His spirits are really good, he's keeping this family together, he's cracking jokes, he has not shed a tear," Sonny added.

Houston is also a champion track star and is getting scholarship interests from Division 1 colleges.
