FORT SMITH, Ark. (AP) — A high school cheerleader in Fort Smith is recovering after she was struck by a stray bullet that went through her bedroom window.
Fort Smith police say 17-year-old Ronniesha Forrest heard people arguing outside her window before she was hit by gunfire. Ronniesha's aunt, Lavonda Thompson, tells Fayetteville television station KHOG the bullet struck Ronniesha's neck. She says the injuries aren't considered life-threatening.
Thompson says doctors told her niece that they can't remove the bullet because it's wedged between two major arteries. The teen is a cheerleader at Northside High School, but Thompson says her niece won't be able to perform any jumps because of her injury.
Thompson says her niece has received a full academic scholarship to the University of Arkansas next fall.
