Ft. Smith Police Officer Charged with Sexually Assaulting Teen

Officer is suspected of having sexual contact with young girl while on duty as a patrol officer.
FORT SMITH, AR -- A Fort Smith police officer has resigned after being accused of having sex with a 16-year-old girl.

On Tuesday, 31-year-old Billy Rowe was arrested on five counts of sexual assault following a criminal investigation into an anonymous tip called into police on Sept. 10.

Officer Rowe was placed on paid administrative leave on Wednesday, Sept. 11, pending investigation.

After a joint investigation by police and the Sebastian County Sheriff's Office, Rowe is suspected of having a relationship with the teen, including having sexual contact with her while on duty as a patrol officer.

Rowe was taken to the Sebastian County Jail with a $25,000 bond, and has since been released.

Prior to being arrested, Rowe resigned from his position as an officer with the Fort Smith Police Department.
