A 15-year-old student was kicked out of his junior high school dance. The teen says because he's gay and wanted to wear a dress.

An apology and understanding is all the family wants but there are quite a few people out there that are asking the two administrators responsible, lose their jobs. Over 2100 signatures have been placed on an online petition requesting the Lake Hamilton Principal and Assistant Principal be fired for kicking a gay teen out of his dance.

This all started when 15-year-old ninth grader, Gavin Combs, decided to wear a dress to the Lake Hamilton Junior High School dance.

Combs says after he had already paid to get in and welcomed by friends, the two school administrators told him they wouldn't have it and told him he had to leave.

"I think it is because of what I was wearing and what I identify as and they didn't necessarily like that so they were going to remove me," Combs said.

His mother isn't asking the two employees be fired like the petition requests but that they admit they were wrong and apologize for kicking her gay son out of the dance for wearing what he says represents who he is.

"If you're wrong say you're wrong," Regina Combs said. "Admit you were wrong, show me what you're going to do to change that, to fix that."

The Lake Hamilton School District has responded addressing a situation they say arose when  a male student was cross dressing in a dress and high heels.

Their emailed statement said:

"A situation took place this past Saturday evening at a non-academic extracurricular activity at Lake Hamilton Junior High School involving a male student cross dressing in a dress and high heels.  The student was denied admission to the dance.  Without prior knowledge that this was going to take place, the building administrators made a spur of the moment decision based on an attempt to avoid a possible harassment and bullying incident and that they felt this was not appropriate attire for this activity.
Since Saturday night, we have had the opportunity to get legal guidance and to research similar situations that other schools have faced across the country.  In the future, similar instances will be handled in a different manner.  Additionally, we will be re-examining our school policies and procedures as well as staff training on related matters.

The family agrees this is a step in the right direction but say they want to ensure that the district educates themselves on students like Gavin who are gay and feel should be able to express themselves in that manner.

Just gunna say he has an instagram gender_queer with hash tags like #fa* #fa*got so yes he wants attention, and he was ok until he raised up his dress a lot higher screaming I'm gay. Now the high school may not have their prom and there will be thousands of pissed off kids directly towards him

He was fine until he started dancing and raised his dress up a lot higher screaming "I'm gay" . He was creating a disturbance so he got kicked out. And his mom already knew it was goin to happen because she already had the people who represent gays from like Iowa or something on the phone ready to go for media attention. That's all this is about, attention and that's what he got. But now the high school might not be able to have there prom. If they don't he is going to have thousands of pissed off kids directed towards him.

Elton John and his better half are gay, I even know of a professor at a local college who is gay, but you don't see them dressing the part of a female. This young man did this for attention and he sure got it. If he wants to dress in the female attire, then he should wait till his parents or he his body changed to that of a female, then wear and work that dress. Most gay and lesbian persons are very well educated and don't feel they have to flaunt their choice of partners. I don't feel that God in no way wants his people to be attracted to the same sex for marriage or sexual partners, but I sure am not going to judge them. There has to be something going on in their lives that causes this choice, and there are also hormones that I believe are also a cause. For this young man to do this, he is looking for attention from someone...like maybe his parents.

Butch; you must be confused. I'm not bringing Christianity into this, except for your comment about Salvation. And I ain't hidin'. I can be found in Jax all over the place. Knight's most days, Kroger sometimes, Daylight Donuts some mornings, Hastings on occasion. Get my point? About as easy as pie to find me; just like "finding" you at Cold Creek was it? Stupid? Nah. Why so much dislike for me? Too much like looking in a mirror maybe? LOL Nope, don't want to push my belief's on others; I just have opinions; just like you and the rest of them. Like I said, I've had gay friends and relatives; they don't bother me in the least. I got nothing against them, really! But my Bible says God doesn't like it; that's all I'm saying. And right back at ya Butch; Lord, another legend in his own mind! LOL Oh, and the computer? For games mostly, and music video's, and writing letters and keeping journals. Peace be with ya Butch! And you too wth. I love both of you! Now I'm going to the Sword Coast and relax. Have a nice day to one and all.

I'll say this much for him - he looks better in a dress than some of the girls I went to school with. Ya gotta give him this much, too - he's got some balls under that dress. The school says they were concerned that he might be the victim of bullying, maybe some of the other students might've hurt him, but if he was comfortable enough with his sexuality to wear a dress, his classmates have prob'ly accepted him for who he is. He wasn't breaking any laws and wasn't causing a disturbance, so why hassle him?

I bet they asked him at the beginning and they also stated he was warned - what would you all say if he was beat half to death or killed ? Someone should have stopped him he was only 15? Someone should have honored the dress code, and if your point is it’s just because he is gay then he wouldn't have been admitted in pants either, as for the those who can't respect a dress up occasion don’t come, everyone pays good money to dress up and have a good time not forced to focus on one person’s cross dressing that put a damper on the night. The point was made his first dress! and you think he doesn't want money or attention? He isn't figuring out who he is , he knows and according to the other comments so does most of the student body, he just chooses to ignore what he wants. I'm sure others feel more comfortable without any clothes but they came dressed appropriately. Get a life kid, the gay shock is over so wear pants and let everyone enjoy a good time you ruined yours for yourself.
