LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) — If you throw toilet seats instead of horseshoes, you might be a redneck.

And this weekend in Arkansas, you might not be alone.

Hundreds of people are expected to head to the second annual Redneck Games of Arkansas on Saturday and Sunday.

The onlookers and contestants will gather in Clinton, about 70 miles north of Little Rock, for events that range from riding lawnmower races to an obstacle course called, "Get Daddy/Mommy a Cold One!"

The games showcase the rise of the redneck in popular culture as people are increasingly tuning into reality TV shows like "Here Comes Honey Boo Boo." The redneck games also raise questions about whether they really reclaim the term for poor, white rural Southerners in a positive way or just perpetuate negative stereotypes.

Mountain man. I like that. I don't have a problem with having a cold one. Although I no longer indulge, I've drank enough beer, whiskey, and wine to float a battleship. My problem is with people having their children get their beer for them 'cause they are too lazy to get off the couch to get it themselves. Kind of like asking your 10 year old to roll one up for you. Sort of. The term redneck itself does not bother me. Nor does hillbilly. I imagine a great many of my ancestors were one or the other.

I have lived in Arkansas all of my life, which has spanned over 6 decades. I wouldnt want to live any other place. Like the other 49 states, we do have our issues and weaknesses. I wouldnt call myself a redneck, or a hillbilly. I grew up relying on the land and my hands to feed and house me and my family. I grew up in the "hills" as they are referred to up in north central Arkansas. I'd much rather see a bunch of grown "country folk" out racing lawnmowers, throwing toilet seats and drinking a "cold one" than I would to see them out breaking the law, robbing people, raping people or killing people. Call me what you want, I dont give a crap, but I'm just an old mountain man and if thats not acceptable these days, then to hell with ya. As far as the "pot supporters", I'm with you on that. Dont smoke it myself, but I support the medicinal values it has.

I may have been born in KS, but AR is my home now. The Stars and Bars are part of my heritage also. One Civil War database I looked at - several hundred entries with my last name; two thirds fought for the South. I'M A REDNECK. But I think the games have a demeaning effect. Like I said, get mommy and daddy a cold one? Sad. Dude; I knew you hated cops, veterans, me, yourself; I would have never thought you believed that "Reefer Madness" BS though.

My husband was the only child in his family born out of state. I was Born in Coos Bay, Oregon. All my family was from here. We are true died in the wool Arkansans. None better. As for ypur earlier crack about pot heads we support that group too. A dude is a dandy dresser for back east that doesn't know crap from crisco. They always seem to be a legend in their own mind. I'd love to attend the Red Neck games but our granddaughter is singing in the regonal singing compitition in Clarksville. Wave the stars and bars high and proud boys. It's our heritage. Try to rob us of that.

I see you posted while I was typing. I went to 2nd through 7th grade in southern Arkansas. I have lived here close to 30 years altogether, half my life; so far. I own land here. I consider myself an Arkie, for better or for worse, and proud of it! I'm also proud of the fact that I'm well read and well educated. Did you read the last sentence in the story? Now that's what I was talking about.

Inbred? My paternal grandfather's sister ( my great aunt in other words ) published 2 books in her lifetime concerning our family tree. My ancestry includes 18 families living in New England prior to 1700, with one family at Plymouth Rock. Bet my tree has many more branches than yours. Backwoods? I can go into the woods ( or desert ) anywhere in this country and not get lost, without modern technology. I was using the term "backwoods" to indicate lack of education. You said you were backwoods. LOL Cold one's? Spirits have been a part of our countries history since it began; are you saying Yankee's brought the technology to refrigerate down here? You may be right, I don't know myself. Redneck? I consider myself a redneck despite the hair; but I don't go around tossing toilet seats, or sit on my fat lazy a** teaching my children to get my alcohol for me. You demean our fellow Arkansans by saying "...we are backwoods hillbilly's...". And finally - you didn't pay attention in English/Comp class, did you? Have a nice day, I'm going to Cabotfest.

Lord have Mercy! No wonder the rest of the country thinks we are backwoods, inbred hillbilly's! We can always hope the national media doesn't pick up on this. Get Mommy and Daddy a cold one; seriously?
