Interim Assistant Principal of Little Rock's Central High Arrested

Thomas Randall McDonald, 55, accused of five counts of misdemeanor harassment. To appear in court next week.
LITTLE ROCK, AR - An interim assistant principal with Little Rock's Central High School has been arrested by Little Rock Police.

Little Rock Police identify him as Thomas R. McDonald, 55, of Sherwood and say he faces five counts of misdemeanor harassment.

According to the December 13 incident report released by police, four girls aged 15 to 17 told school officials that McDonald had called them out of class or approached them in the hallway more than once to ask about their sexual activity. He allegedly called the girls "sexy," according to one of them. The girls also made allegations that he hugged them and brushed their back. Police investigated the incident and sent the case file to the Prosecutor's Office for review.

Today, the Prosecutor's office requested that warrants be issued for McDonald's arrest. McDonald turned himself in to juvenile detectives and was issued a citation for those warrants.

McDonald is scheduled to appear in criminal court on April 23.

The arrest was revealed to parents in the following email sent this morning:

Important Message from Principal Rousseau

Today, the Little Rock Police Department arrested an interim assistant principal who worked at Little Rock Central High following allegations of inappropriate comments made to female students. When the school administration learned of the allegations in December, the employee was immediately removed from campus, placed on administrative leave and LRSD Safety and Security personnel along with the Little Rock Police Department were contacted to begin an immediate investigation. A report was also made to the Department of Human Services. We were requested by legal authorities not to discuss the case so we would not jeopardize the investigation.  However, the administration did follow district policies and protocol as per the law.

All adults are required to report to designated authorities when allegations of inappropriate behavior are brought to our attention. It is the immediate responsibility of the administration to protect the rights, privacy and well-being of the students involved. While this information is unfortunate, please remain confident that the administration and staff at Central High School are committed to the safety, security and education of all of our students.

Here are ways LRSD reinforces safety and security measures on our campus:
  • Students  are advised on how to report any observed bullying, harassment, inappropriate words or actions  to an administrator, security officer, or school resource officer
  • Administrators have an open door policy for student and parent concerns
  • All visitors must report to the main office when entering one of our two school public entrances
  • Security remains at these entrances during school hours
  • Students are advised and know to report any suspicious visitors to an administrator, security officer, or school resource officer
The District takes matters related to inappropriate behavior by staff members and/or students very seriously and will discipline those who violate school policies according to state law and respective LRSD handbooks.

Please be assured we are constantly working to ensure the safety of students, parents and staff. We will provide you additional information as warranted. If you have further concerns or questions, feel free to contact principal, Nancy Rousseau at  Nancy.Rousseau@lrsd.org.
