Intoxicated Pregnant Driver Allegedly Barrels into Trick-Or-Treaters

It sounds like the plot of a horror film, but a Hot Springs neighborhood was the scene of a real life nightmare.

HOT SPRINGS, AR -- Adults where shoving kids out of harm's way in the Quail Ridge neighborhood Thursday when Garland County Sheriff's Deputies confirm an intoxicated, pregnant woman raced around the neighborhood with two children in her car.

Those adults sacrificed their own safety and were struck and run over themselves.

Witnesses said they just could not believe what was happening.

"It was horrible," John Bird said. "She was coming down the hill 50, 60 miles per hour weaving back and forth."

Bird was trick-or-treating with his son when he saw a car barreling through the streets that struck anything that got in its way.

"I started yelling to everyone, 'Get out of the road, get out of the road, get out of the road!'" he said.

The suspect, 27-year-old Twila Watson, was driving with two children in the car at the time, and totaled the car.

Deputies said she had a blood alcohol content of .20, more than twice the legal limit.

Witnesses say one of the people hit was taken to the hospital.

"She pushed some kids out of the way, saved them I heard," Lara Paul said. "That's when the lady was run over."

Neighbors like Paul are starting a fund for the victims who they said saved their children's lives.

"This woman basically tried to stop this lady," Paul said. "And we all realized our kids could have been hurt last night, and we're grateful they were not."

They're grateful no trick-or-treaters were hurt, but that doesn't mean everyone is OK.

"My daughter wouldn't leave my side last night after it was all over," Paul said. "The kids are pretty upset and rightly so, it was their night."

Watson has not been released from Mercy Hospital, so there is no mug shot of her yet.

She’s facing three counts of endangering minors and four counts of second-degree battery.
